USA / Canada Tariffs

USA / Canada Tariffs

New import tariffs (customs/duty fees) announced by the American government are in effect on some products shipped into the USA from Canada, where we are based.

Be aware that any cross-border fees are completely beyond our control; by making a purchase, the buyer accepts all responsibility for duty costs. See customs info in our shipping policy for more details. Some state taxes and/or occasional private carrier fees (e.g. if you want the delivery address changed mid-transit, we were supplied an incorrect address, etc.) may still be charged upon delivery regardless; these costs are also beyond our control.

Old Exemption Threshold Expired

Former USA de minimus duty exemptions (any shipment valued under $800) were removed on Aug. 29, 2025, therefore after this date you may or may not be charged duty fees on your order (depends if items were exempt under USMCA, see section below). Orders placed after that date will have any applicable duty fees applied, and paid to US Customs in advance. You won't be charged anything extra upon receiving your order.

If you decide to refuse your shipment as a result of duty fees being charged, please be aware: we cannot refund your order until the parcel is returned to us, and that all shipping charges and duty fees are non-refundable (more details here).

USMCA/CUSMA Goods Are Duty-Free

Only goods shipped to USA that fall outside of the USMCA trade agreement ("non-compliant"), or are shipped via postal service, will be tariffed. Our handmade goods are 100% compliant, meaning that they are eligible to be duty-free because they are made in Canada, and therefore we can supply customs with a Certificate of Origin.

However about 5% of our products are not made in Canada, so we expect duty fees on them to be about $2-$8 USD depending on order value. You'll be able to preview these fees before you buy, see below.

Duty Fees Payable In Checkout

To comply with the new USA import laws, we (along with many businesses globally) are including duty charges in our checkout for any products not eligible for duty-free status. This allows import fees to be paid up-front, thereby sparing you any "surprises" upon delivery. This includes prepaid duties required by shipping via postal service, however those duties are already embedded in the postage rate.

Postal Rates Affected

Despite most of our items being duty-free (jump to USMCA), CBP announced on Aug. 28, 2025 that they will not accept postal shipments that do not have all duties prepaid, whether any should be charged or not. This means that when shipping via Post, we are required to charge you 35% duty on our handmade goods regardless (see the White House Global Guidance for International Mail - PDF), plus a new $1.99 +10% postal processing fee. Since this isn't a blanket policy that affect other carriers, it's not possible to separate these charges as a line item in the checkout at this time; they will be included in your postage rate.

We were told that this is a temporary measure put in place by the USA government to deter illegal substances being trafficked through the international mail system. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, and hope they will revisit this policy as soon as possible.
